What is the District Development Atlas?

Maharashtra is a vast state with 31 districts and up to 54,000 villages. To track the level of development of each village is difficult almost impossible task. But by using this District Development Atlas, tracking development is much easier and insightfull and just a few clicks away! The Concept of Deprivation: The level of development of a community can be assessed by studying the hazards that a community faces caused due to various Deprivations that the community suffers. (These deprivations might enhance or be enhanced by prevalent hazards).

• Income Deprivation: Shortfall of livelihoods and/or livelihood opportunities. A Livelihood comprises of the capabilities, assets (stores, resources, claims and access) and activities required for a means of living: a livelihood is sustainable which can cope with and recover from stress and shocks, maintain or enhance its capabilities and assets, and provide sustainable livelihood opportunities for the next generation.
• Access Deprivation: Impaired access to various facilities and amenities which the population is entitled to. Access refers to the access to and adequacy of various facilities and amenities necessary to enhance livelihoods, increase the productivity of resources and ensure a sustainable and decent quality of life.
• Natural Resource Deprivation: Availability or the lack of natural resources such as forests, sources of water and land capability. Natural Resource refers to the resources available to the communities required for a means of creating livelihoods and maintaining an acceptable quality of life.
• Multiple Deprivations: Is defined as a deprivation of more than one factor or a combination of the above three factors.
