The Pune Metro network with its 2 lines operational and 3rd under construction, is considered as a solution to alleviate the local traffic and congestion issues in Pune city and increase mobility for all citizens. With an exponential increase in the population of Pune and the greater Pune Metropolitan Region these lines are essential.
In order to ensure that the metro network is truly successful, there is a need to ensure last mile connectivity from and to the metro stations. As of now there is no last mile connectivity study that has been carried out and thus it is imperative that such a study be implemented in order to identify the gaps in enabling people to use the metro network. It is also important to study the current traffic conditions in order to check whether the intervention of the metro has worked.
CDSA Pune is carrying out a study of walkability and traffic congestion around the metro stations of Pune city to plan for last mile connectivity when the metro network finally starts. Below is a map of the existing aqua line and its stations.
