Our first point of contact with any public transportation system are service stops. Whether they be bus stops, metro stops or tram stops. The only ways to access the stops are via roads or footpaths. We argue two points, (i) that the access to and from stops has to be safe and usable in order to encourage citizens to travel to public transport access points, which are the stops and (ii) the stops have to be clean, comfortable, safe and functional.

This study aims to achieve the following objectives; (A) Improve walkability and access to public transport access points by studying the walkability of the streets leading to various public transport access points viz. Bus stops and metro stops as well as rickshaw stands. (B) Improve the condition and functionality of bus stops. Some of the proposed elements for improvement are customised bus route maps, improved seating and roofing so that it won’t be a hindrance to free pedestrian movements and (C). Propose better bus stop design and maintenance frameworks.
